For 2 years, Matt Rhule led the Carolina Panthers and was brought in to make changes. But 5 weeks ago he coached for the final time.
As Matt says goodbye to Carolina, sources say he left behind a giant mess. The Carolina Panthers signed Matt to a 7-year 63 million dollar deal in 2020 which turned out to be terrible. Carolina needs better talent immediately, and this signing didn't help in terms of finances. They fired him because the money he was given was not getting them any better. His overall record as a coach at Carolina was 13-30. Articles have said this was the worst signing possible for Carolina.
The team tweeted this about their decision. Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper said he ran out of patience with Matt Rhule's inability to get the franchise “over the hump.” Football fans were asked for their opinion on the firing.
Peter Zambito, a grade nine Harbord student, and a football fan, said, "I'm relieved that he was fired since I never cared for the Panthers because I found them to be dull to watch. I now anticipate them being more amusing. He and the team were not a good fit, though I believe he earned it. I believe they need to start trading players and replacing the coach.”
Jacob Sarno, a grade 5 St. Francis student and fantasy football guru, said, “I feel good because I do not support the Carolina Panthers. I think he deserved it because he was not a respectful coach. I think their team will fall under and collapse. This is because their star players are now requesting trades and don’t want to be a part of the team. I would not want to be a fan of that team.”
Peter Sarno, 45, former NHL player, and fantasy football guru, said, “I feel it was a good decision by the organization to let him go as he wasn’t getting the best out of his players. I think he deserved it because he wasn’t preparing his players or team properly and not implementing the proper plays or schemes to be successful. I think they will have to adjust to a new system and coaching falsification. But I think this decision was the best for the team.”
A Grade 8 student at St. Francis and NFL fan Franchesco Diodati said, “I am really happy with this decision. This is because the Carolina Panthers and my favorite team the Los Angeles Rams are in the same conference. This makes the Carolina Panthers worse and gives my Rams a better chance at making the playoffs. I feel he deserved it for any reason such as bad play selection. Their offense has not scored many points and I believe it’s because of the coaching. If the team does not pick up their offense they are going to be worse than they already are.”
The team had a record of 1-4 when he was fired and over the past 5 weeks, the team has had a record of 2-3 and has improved to an overall 3-7. They have been better without Matt and the decision seems to have panned out. Hopefully, the city of Carolina finally gets the sunlight they need.
