School soccer is back on and our tigers are already bringing home some impressive wins.
Hello Tigertalk, I’m Zain Butt, and I’m sure you’ve heard from the announcements the great feats that our school’s soccer team has been achieving now that they’re back, and it was this as well as their very welcome return in a time of social distancing and virtual everything, that led to me interviewing some of the people on our team to hear what they have to say about being back, being good, and how they’re there.
First, I spoke to Luca Pescador Jin on the 12th of November, and here is an outline of our conversation from that day:
“Are you excited that soccer is back on?”
“Of course.”
“What position do you play Luca?”
“I play striker, but on Friday I was in the wings.”
“I see, how many people are on the soccer team right now?”
“About 18-20 people.”
My first talk with Luca was certainly insightful, and not much later I talked with Deniz Mueller and a player who goes by K.N., and here’s what the both of them had to say:
“ What positions do the two of you play?”
Deniz: “I play striker.”
K.N.: “I play center back.”
“Great, so tell me about how your last game went.”
Deniz: “It was a good game, Nimo scored two goals, the other team scored an own goal, and there was a goal by Adam.”
K.N.: “It was relatively easy until the last 20 minutes. When we put our bench in, everything started to fall apart.”
“Who’d you bench?”
K.N.: “Basically all our starting players, we were winning three nothing. Had to give everyone equal playing time.”
And finally I was able to catch up with K.N. and Luca after their second 4-2 win last Friday and get their fresh words on the victory.
“You boys are on fire! That’s another game for Harbord’s soccer team. Tell us how the game went.”
K.N.: “Think it went pretty well, we scored more goals than them and won.”
“That’s the point ain’t it? Were there any moments of doubt, any tough points in that game?”
K.N.: “Honestly, when the other team started screaming “get the ball” it really worried me, I think they’d just figured out how to win the game.”
“They figured that out eventually huh? Well you boys looking to win more games, looking to go to regionals?”
Luca: “If there is a regionals it will be won by us.”
With all the statements I have gotten this week it’s very safe to say the Harbord tigers are quite confident in themselves, but is it rightful confidence, or simply hubris?
Only time will tell Tigers, but for now I think my money’s riding on our school’s team, is yours?
This is Zain Butt from Tigertalk, signing off.
