HARBORD TIGERTALK

The OSSLT is Back

By Sofia Gouveia

It’s that time of year again, OSSLT testing! The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test has been reinstated for all grade 10s, 11s, and non-graduating students this year. Writing the OSSLT test is a requirement to graduate, but no need to fear, our teachers are here. They have provided us with a great amount of prep and support to ensure our success for this test.

As you may have noticed, due to Covid-19, last year, the literacy test was not written. Grade elevens will also be taking the OSSLT this year to make up for missing it last year. As with many things affected by  Covid-19, the test will look a little different this year. Instead of the test being handwritten, it will be done online. It will still be written in person, but the school will provide computers to do so. Most, if not all, students taking the OSSLT this semester have already completed a practice test to prepare for the real one. During the practice test, they were provided with the necessary information to log onto the testing site along with previous preparation where all questions were answered before the practice test.

This year, students have been given an extra hour to complete the test, which is one hour more than the expected time for a total of two full hours. If a student does not pass the test, it can be re-taken the following year. Finally, good luck to all Harbord students writing the Literacy Test!
