Soul (2020) is a funny, imaginative and unforgettable movie that everyone should watch. The movie follows Joe Gardener (Jamie Foxx), a middle school band teacher and aspiring jazz musician in New York City. After a seemingly fatal accident, Joe finds himself in a remarkable place called the “great before,” where new souls are given their personalities before going to Earth. Here he teams up with an unborn soul named 22 (Tina Fey). Their adventure together has Joe rethink his entire life, and rediscover his passion for living.
Soul uses light sarcasm and witty jokes to keep the movie flowing smoothly. The great soundtrack and well-written script leave the movie without a dull moment. It’s another must-see from Pixar, who has gone above and beyond living up to past greats such as Up (2009), and Inside Out (2015). Soul is a truly riveting movie to watch, especially as a high school student who is being asked to decide what my purpose in life is going to be. I’m absolutely certain that Soul will leave you wondering what your “spark” is, just as it did for me.
